How to Use the Interview Sidekick

Step-by-step guide on how to use the Screenloop Interview Sidekick

Updated yesterday

The Screenloop Interview Sidekick is your companion throughout the interview process. It’s designed to be easy to launch and simple to use during live interviews, while giving you powerful tools to capture notes, highlight key moments, and provide structured feedback.

This article focuses on how to use and get the most value from the Interview Sidekick during interviews.

For setup instructions, see Setting up the Interview Sidekick.

Requirements

Before using the Interview Sidekick, make sure that you:

  • Have completed setup for a supported video conferencing tool (e.g. Zoom or Google Meet)

  • Have installed the Screenloop Chrome Extension

  • Have access to a Screenloop account within your organisation

Launching the Interview Sidekick

To launch the Interview Sidekick:

  1. Join the interview from your calendar
Always select Join Interview with Screenloop.

  2. Confirm interview details
You’ll see a confirmation screen showing:

    • The candidate’s name

    • The role they are interviewing for

  3. Click Launch with Sidekick

If you don’t see this confirmation screen, refer to the Troubleshooting Guide.

Once launched, Screenloop will open:

  • Your video conferencing tool, and

  • The Interview Sidekick at the same time.

Sidekick Layout Overview

Candidate & Role Information

At the top of the Sidekick, you’ll always see:

  • The candidate’s name

  • The role they’re interviewing for

This remains visible throughout the interview.

Taking Notes & Adding Reactions

The bottom section of the Sidekick is where you interact with the interview in real time.

Notes

  • Type your notes as the interview progresses

  • Press Enter to save a note

  • All notes are timestamped and linked to:

    • The interview recording

    • The transcription (if enabled)

Quick Reactions

Use quick reactions to instantly flag key moments, such as:

  • Strong answers

  • Concerning or inappropriate comments

Combining Notes & Reactions

You can associate a note with a quick reaction:

  • Type your note

  • Do not press Enter

  • Click a quick reaction instead

All notes and reactions can be reviewed and edited after the interview and help surface key insights later.

Reviewing Notes During the Interview

As you add notes and reactions, the middle section of the Sidekick displays:

  • All comments

  • All quick reactions

  • A chronological view of interview highlights

This makes it easy to track the conversation as it unfolds.

Mentioning Teammates

You can mention other users in your Screenloop organisation:

  • Type @ during the interview

  • Or after the interview from the Notes section on the Interviews page

  • Select a teammate from the list

The mentioned user will receive an email notification.

Tagging Scorecard Attributes

You can tag ATS scorecard attributes directly during the interview.

How it works

  • Attributes are pulled directly from the scorecard assigned to the role

  • During the interview:

    • Select an attribute

    • Leave a star rating

This data is later visible in the Screenloop dashboard and scorecards.

Important Notes

  • A scorecard must already exist for the role

  • Only scorecard fields with star ratings appear in the Sidekick

  • Open text fields do not appear and must be completed in the scorecard after the interview

  • If no scorecard categories exist for the interview stage, no attributes will be shown
